Hi! I thought you’d like to know a little about the person behind the canvas and camera. Among many things, I’m a middle child, I’m a peace-maker, and I love to have fun and make new friends. I’m a wife, a mommy, and an artist.
Nearly ten years ago (where did that time go), I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I earned my Bachelor of Fine Art in Studio Art, concentrating on painting and photography. Over the past ten years, I’ve worked in studios, shown my paintings in galleries, and participated in solo shows, group shows, and fine art festivals. I met the man who was more than I dreamed, and I married him. I’ve photographed seniors, families, weddings, and recently my very own newborn! I have had my own art spaces in North Carolina and Iowa. From single to married, from North Carolina to Iowa, from wife to mommy—the past ten years have been a whirlwind of adventure!
I’m currently painting and making photographs in lovely northeast Iowa. I paint from my rural farmhouse studio, and my photography takes me to locations close to the hearts of my clients.
When painting, I create color relationships and use vigorous marks and texture to emphasize moody abstract atmospheres. For inspiration, I use the world around me, the process, and my own experiences. The works of Mark Rothko, Hans Hofmann, and Vincent Van Gogh all inspire me. While some of my paintings are loosely representational, I find abstraction to be one of the truest ways to emotionally connect the painting and viewer.
When behind my camera, I specialize in natural-light lifestyle photography. Whether I’m on location photographing a newly engaged couple, a senior excited about graduating, or a grumpy kiddo, I thrive on connecting with my clients to capture sincere emotion. My joy as a portrait photographer is handing over a gallery of images that genuinely reflects the love, the laughter, and even the tears of real-life people. Life is beautiful. At the end of the day, not only do my clients have fantastic images and memories that will last a lifetime, but we also have had fun making them!
I thank God for my family, for our blessings, for this beautiful journey we share. I thank God for all experiences, both good and tough, for the relationships developed with friends and clients, for the ability to connect with people and appreciate our differences and similarities. I’m so grateful for the chance and ability to make art.
While keeping very busy, the best job is raising my most precious creation here on the farm, my little cherub. I’m grateful for so many things, but the love of my husband and my baby girl is the greatest!
